Statement by Curt Decker, executive director of the National Disability Rights Network: NDRN looks forward to working with the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) as they “Rethink” special education for students with disabilities.
NDRN and the Protection and Advocacy (P&A) Network is committed to ensuring that students with disabilities and their families receive all the educational services and supports to which they are entitled. Indeed, in 2016 the P&As collectively worked on nearly 14,000 individual cases and hundreds of systemic cases related to education.
We welcome the opportunity to engage with OSERS on ways to form partnerships to better support students and enhance meaningful outcomes bolstered by high expectations, to support states in their work, and to encourage responsible flexibility within the constructs of relevant laws.
