Bowles v. Florida, Florida Supreme Court, #19-5617
On August 21, 2019, NDRN joined an amicus by Disability Rights Florida (the Florida P&A) and the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law in support of a petition for certiorari before the U.S. Supreme Court in seeking habeas relief in a death penalty case on behalf of Mr. Bowle’s claim that he was an individual with an intellectual disability and thus should not be subject to capital punishment. The Supreme Court denied the petition on August 22, 2019, and Mr. Bowles was executed later that day.
