Washington DC – The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) is extremely pleased to hear of the resolution agreement announced today by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) with the Los Angeles Unified School District in California. The agreement follows an OCR investigation finding that the district failed to provide services identified in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 plans during remote learning. The district agreed to resolve these violations by creating and implementing a comprehensive plan to address the compensatory education needs of students with disabilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“NDRN hopes this agreement will send a clear message to school districts around the country,” said Curt Decker, executive Director of NDRN. “Schools must take quick and comprehensive steps to make up for the loss of education students with disabilities experienced during the pandemic.”
