Both General Motor and Ford applied for a petition to NHTSA to roll out new autonomous vehicles that will not comply with all NHTSA safety regulations. The idea is to get the vehicles on the road to advance the development of autonomous vehicles. NDRN is using this opportunity to urge NHTSA not to allow such exemptions unless the vehicles are accessible for all passengers with disabilities. The new advent of autonomous vehicles will open the door to new possibilities for persons with disabilities and NDRN does not want to let this opportunity pass.
