WASHINGTON – In response to the announcement that the Trump Administration has proposed combining the Departments of Education (ED) and Labor, the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) Executive Director Curt Decker issued the following statement:

“The National Disability Rights Network rejects any action by the Trump Administration to combine the U.S. Departments of Education (ED) and Labor. These two agencies have different missions, serve different populations and administer different statutes. Additionally, given the crucial and complex work of these two separate agencies, NDRN is highly concerned that combining the agencies would weaken and confuse their duties and result in a grave disservice to the populations they serve, including individuals with disabilities. This idea is ill founded, reactionary and shows a lack of understanding on the part of the Administration regarding the role and importance of ED and Labor. It demonstrates a blatant disregard for the consequences that this action would have on all citizens of the United States, including individuals with disabilities.”
