On February 2, 2022, the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit held a hearing entitled “The Road Ahead for Automated Vehicles”. Automated or autonomous vehicles (AV) have the potential to open countless doors for persons with disabilities. However, if they are not designed with accessibility in mind, millions of Americans with disabilities could be left behind. The Transportation Task Force of the CCD, which Claire Stanley is a cochair for, submitted comments into the record to emphasize this issue and provide a list of AV principles the task force has developed to highlight access requirements when developing AVs.
